Sybil Barkley-Staples believes wholeheartedly that God has equipped you to do the job, but it's up to you to recognize what he's given you and to start using it. She'll Learn is her debut novel, but expect much more from Sybil, she has plenty of stories to tell.
Sybil was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan by her mother and her grandparents. It was instilled in her that she could do anything she aspired to. Growing up Sybil had two loves in her life, basketball and writing. They both served as an escape from everyday life for Sybil, helping her to ease her way through the awkwardness of adolescence. Sybil's first love, basketball obtained her an athletic scholarship to Alabama State University. During her freshman year, Sybil met and fell in love with her husband. After a year, Sybil transferred to Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia to concentrate on her goal of becoming a journalist. Upon graduation, Sybil became employed with The Weather Channel as a Technical Director. After nearly nine years with the company, Sybil is presently a web developer for the company's website, weather.com.
Sybil grew up listening to and loving all types of music, with hip-hop serving as the soundtrack to her life. She is an avid reader as well as a movie buff. Her favorite book and movie is The Color Purple. Some of her favorite authors are Alice Walker, Beverly Jenkins, Florence Scovel Shinn and the many authors bringing new voices to the literary scene. Meeting Terry McMillan gave her the motivation to try and get her stories published. Sybil has always been inspired by women like Oprah Winfrey, Susan L. Taylor, her mother Lena and grandmother Mable to guide her development as a woman and a mother.
Sybil Barkley-Staples is married with two daughters and lives in Jonesboro, Georgia. Sybil is currently working on her second novel and trying her hand at writing a screenplay.
