I have an excellent working knowledge of the book trade. First, as a long time reader for the last three decades, and secondly, from the angle of owning a bookstore for three years with 75% of the clientèle buying Romance Fiction. It was a small store, which permitted me to interact with the loyal readers and hear their likes and dislikes about everyone popular author of the period.
I spent the last twenty years helping my grandfather, a retired British Historian, sort, restore and rewrite the history of our family in Scotland and England. That is where I came across the basis for my novel A Restless Knight, set in the year before the rising of William Wallace. I was working on those pages for the history of my family in the late 1200’s, and thought it was a perfect story to make a marvellous historical romance.
I currently reside one-half of the year in Britain, the rest in Kentucky – a pattern of my whole life. Receiving my education on both sides of the Pond gives me an unique perspective into both countries.
I was resident historian at WAXING POETIC for a year (1999-2001). Also, I have a joint company with artist Carmon Deyo called CLAN RAVEN LTD. I writer tales of Pict-Celt lore or tales from my family, and Carmon takes them and turns them into the most beautiful jewellery in silver and gold. She also produces greeting cards, throw pillows, scarves, totes and silk painting on them. Our joint effort “THE THREE FACES OF THE GODDESS”, a highly original look at the Pict-Celt Goddesses, has won awards and impressed Barnes and Nobles enough to sponsor a month long showing in Texas of the works in September 2000, and even threw a cocktail party to launch it. We hope someday to compile the works into a book.
I am a reviewer on Amazon.co.uk (#7), Amazon.com (#29), Amazon.de (#24). I am on staff at Rambles.net a Celtic Webmagazine and The Best Reviews, Paranormal Reviews and Sensual Romance Reviews at Writerspace. I am a member of RIO (Reviewer International Organization), Assistant Editor for RIO's newsletter and Chair the RIO Award of Excellence; RWA (Romance Writers of America); Hearts Through History 2nd Vice-President; Editor Hearts Through History's Newsletter The Bard Scroll; Member of Celtic Hearts and History Fiction Writers of Britain; FF&P RWA SIG.
My first Scottish Historical is set in 1296 - with plans to follow with a continuance of the Sagas of Scotland’s War for Independence with plans for at least three more in this series. "A Restless Knight" (originally called "Challon's Lady") will be published by Kensington books July 2006. Ravenhawke, the sequel, comes out October 2006. They will be followed more historicals in this series.
I also have a Contemporary Paranormal series starting. "Invasion of Falgannon Isle" will be the first to see print in 2006 for Dorchester Publishing. "Riding the Thunder" (dates tba) is the second in the series. They are followed with five more about 7 sisters finding love better the second time around. They are Contemporary Paranormal Romances with a ligher touch.
Invasion of Falgannon Isle is a Winner in 2004 Jasmine Award; Finalst in the Stella Cameron's 2004 Scarlet Boa Contest; semi-finalist of the 2004 Molly Contest.
