Sudie Rakusin is an artist and an ecofeminist. Her love and concern for the Earth and Her creatures influences all her choices and permeates her work.
Her art has been widely reproduced in newspapers, magazines, and calendars and can be found in such books as The Once and Future Goddess by Elinor Gadon, Seasons of the Witch by Patricia Monaghan, and the Wickedary, Outercourse, and Quintessence by Mary Daly. She has published color note cards of her paintings and two blank journals containing her pen-and-ink drawings. Under the moniker Winged Willow Press she has published her first children’s book, Dear Calla Roo…Love, Savannah Blue: a letter to a pen pal, The Coloring Book for Big Girls, and The Second Coloring Book for Big Girls. The second Dear Calla Roo will be released in January 2003. The children's books were inspired by two darling girls, her niece, Calla Ruth, and her Great Dane, Savannah Blue.
Sudie worked originally in oils and pen and ink. She has broadened her exploration of different media to include papier-mâché sculptures and painted mosaic-tiled furniture. Soon, she plans to learn welding, to unleash the new creatures crowding her imagination.
She lives outside Hillsborough, North Carolina, on the edge of a meadow with her Great Danes, surrounded by her gardens and the forest.
