Barb Piatt
Raleigh, North Carolina, United States Have been writing since grade-school, completed one western novel some years back but did so more as a personal exercise and have not submitted it anywhere. A short story of mine was published in my college's annual literary magazine; however, I am not a short story writer.
Presently working on a novel that is based on a true story, that of the relationship between me and my first love who served as a Marine in the Vietnam War and was killed in action there. The particular nature of our relationship as well as the powerful and lasting effects of his death on my life, are elements that make this story compelling. A quarter of a century after his death, I set out to discover what had happened to him that day. This research turned into a journey both psychological and spiritual: in finding him again, I also found the self I had lost. Readers of this novel will find themselves drawn from the innocence of small-town America as it was in the early 1960's to the jungles of Vietnam where a Marine battalion that would not quit earned the name "The Walking Dead" and became a Marine Corps legend. Interests: The Vietnam War; Native Americans; Psychology; Law; Spirituality
