As a participant in the International Voluntary Services program I worked at the village level in West Africa during five years. After a PhD at Cornell I was hired to continue development work in Brazil. Several short term assignments have provided other experiences in international development. During the past 25 years as a professor of Applied Social Sciences in the Federal University system in Brazil it has been my goal to provide a more adequate understanding of the world to my colleagues in the U.S. This has become especially important with the events of September 11. My objective is to provide an interesting, readible book that is, at the same time, instructive and includes useful suggestions for understanding, and perhaps modifying, globalization and its effect on the world population.
Interests: Providing more adequate views of the current world situation for the general population, based on more than 40 years of foreign experience in Africa and Latin America.
