I am the author of DIVIDED LIVES (St Martin's Press & Palgrave/Macmillan), a 'hybrid' mix of memoir, first-person narrative, and history. My book garnered much media attention. I made appearances on local, regional, and national radio and TV. Although, as I often tell my inquiring students, I am not 'in the money.' I have a PhD in English, and am an associate professor. I am the recipient of many awards, including a Fulbright. I am not a 'pure academic,' as I did stints in sales, promotions and PR, and developed university outreach programs.
I am now working on a nonfiction book for which I have written a proposal, and also a novel (connected stories), and although I have published in journals and magazines, I am trying to do so again. I write primarily creative nonfiction, and also essays and articles about social issues (gender, media, mental health), pop culture, and literature. I have a penchant for women's issues; in particular, how young women are marketed to and affected by the media.
Currently, I am looking to sell the film rights to DIVIDED LIVES. I am also looking for an agent for my next books, and to make contact with magazine editors. Interests: Social issues, trauma, history, literature, memoir
