Ira Wolfman

New York, New York, United States

Email: iwolfman@poecom.com

I am an editor, author, and information architect working with media companies
and nonprofit organizations. Much of my work has involved creating educational and
child-development media for families, teachers, and students.

I've written books for adults and for children. My most recent, "Jewish New York: Notable
Neighborhoods and Memorable Moments," was published in October, 2003, by Rizzoli.
A few months earlier, Workman Publishing issued a revised edition of my interactive
introduction to geography, "My World and Globe." And in fall 2002, Workman released
"Climbing Your Family Tree: Online and Offline Genealogy for Kids" and other beginners,
a completely revised edition of my 1991 introduction to genealogy. Nearly
800,000 copies of my books are currently in print.

In addition to my writing career, I own my own consulting business, POE
Communications, which specializes in creating exciting print, online, and educational
materials for media companies and non-profit organizations. My clients include
Manhattan Media/Avenue Magazine, Readers Digest/Young Families, AARP/My
Generation Magazine, Cranium Game Company, Chamber Music America, National
Parenting Association, Work in America, and many others.

POE's consultants deliver high-quality advice in content-development, business strategy
and design for print and online media. Our team of editors, writers, and designers have
experience developing more than 100 highly profitable custom publications, a number of
which have won journalism and education awards.

My personal background includes more than 20 years in the magazine business. I was
Publisher and Editor in Chief of six magazines for parents, children, and teachers at
Children's Television Workshop. Prior to holding those jobs, I was Editor in Chief of
Sesame Street Parents, a parenting magazine with more than 1 million readers, and
founding editorial director of Padres de Sesame Street, a Spanish-language quarterly
publication for Latino families. My writing has been published by Readers Digest, Travel
and Leisure, Spy, Ms., Family Circle, Metropolis, Architectural Record, Child, The New
York Times, NY Daily News Sunday Magazine, and many others.

Since April 2004, I have been Senior Vice President, Editorial, at Weekly Reader
Publishing. There, I oversee 15 high-quality magazines and supplements
used in American classrooms. Weekly Reader is now part of the Reader's
Digest Association, and we are located on the Reader's Digest campus in Chappaqua,
New York. I can be reached there at phone number 914.242.4053.
