What can you say about Marlena Martin, founder & CEO of Supernova Films? She’s more than a person, more than a Supernova – she’s her own universe!

Born in East St. Louis, IL, she’s been living in Killeen, Texas for the past 6 years. Before moving to Texas, Marlena traveled extensively abroad. She’s served in both the US Army and the Army Reserves.

“Contrary to popular belief, I love being in Third World countries. You have to honor and respect people of different cultures…take nothing for granted.”

Returning to the US in 2000, Marlena focused on her writing. In 2002 her first published book, “Poems for Surviving: Breakup, Abuse & Divorce” received critical acclaim and continues to sell well despite the fact she hasn’t done book or press tours.

In 2003, her first screenplay “Sister Ella” received top honors from Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey’s Triggersheet. Marlena was the first African American Female/Screenwriter to reach the top ten & voted Best Original Screenplay. As a result, Marlena gained representation with Marcello Robinson of 777 Entertainment.

In 2004, her documentary “Driven 2004” was an official selection in the 2004 Women of Color Film Festival in New York alongside actresses Lisa Gay Hamilton of The Practice (Beah: A Black Woman Speaks) & Vanessa Williams of Showtime’s Soulfood (Allergic to Nuts).

Besides being a author, filmmaker, director and screenwriter, she currently writes a column for Blackflix.com entitled “Driven in 2006”. She’s also Spotlight Editor for radio DJ and Personality Erykah James of Dallas (SistahsConnect.com). Marlena is also contributing writer for Paris Guide’s An Insider’s Guide to Traveling and Discovering Paris and Europe. She’s also a student in UCLA’s Writers Development Program.
