The Author was born in Sylacauga, Alabama in 1924, His family moved to Rockford in Coosa County twenty miles south of Sylacauga when he was eight. This move came as the result of the Great Depression that relocated many families to the country trying to make a living farming.
He was an energetic young fellow and the Huck Finn of his generation. His great, great grandfather was one of the first to settle the area and Jack enjoyed exploring the territory his ancestors settled. So he spent much of his pre teen years riding his pony all over Coosa County hunting and fishing.
With his dare devil and care free nature some how he made it through his adolescent years and graduated from Coosa County high School with honors in Science, was very good at math and athletics. His education was interrupted at the University of Alabama by his desire to serve his country in the Navy during World War II. Once he had spent two years on the seas on a Destroyer Escort in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea, the Navy recognized his talents and sent him back to college to become an officer. He was in this program a Mercer University in Macon, Georgia and Kansas University at Lawrence, Kansas studying pre Engineering and Naval Science. The war ended while he was in Kansas and he returned home to Rockford and finished his education at Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree.
Immediately after college, he married his lovely wife, Dr. Thomas Jefferson Jonesí middle daughter, Claire, of Marion Alabama. They had one daughter Susan and eventually settled in Mobile, Alabama after living in Port Arthur, Texas, and Sylacauga.
He worked in Engineering Management, where he developed his writing skills with The Texas Oil company, Kimberly Clark Corporation, Courtaulds North America and Ciba Geigy Corporation. In all he has over forty years experience in engineering writing activities. In addition to writing articles in Engineering Magazines, this included making engineering studies with written reports, writing plant preventive maintenance programs, operating instructions and all the writing involved in managing Engineering Projects from conception to final start up in the hundreds of millions of dollar ranges.
He is now retired, living in Mobile and spends his time reminiscing with Claire about his grown grandchildren Trey, Prather and Jennifer while writing his memoirs and novels.
