I started work in the publishing world at the age of 23, in the editorial production department of Prentice-Hall, Inc., in 1970.
Later, I began stringing for local newspapers and selling freelance articles to other print markets, and have since been a community newspaper reporter, advertising account exec, and managing editor, working at newspapers south of Boston, Massachusetts, and in the Burlington, Vermont, region. I also use QuarkXPress and the Adobe Creative Suite for layout and graphics on books, newspapers, magazines, and newsletters.
I've written for the All American Crafts group of magazines in New Jersey, concentrating on quilters and home-crafters who market their own work. And I've been a regular writer on business issues for the New England Business Journals group of publications in Vermont and New Hampshire for the past decade.
I have two books out - The Official Price Guide to Collecting Books (6th Edition) from Random House's House of Collectibles; and The Unofficial Guide to Beating Stress, published by John Wiley & Sons.
In January of 2002, I edited and published an anthology of newspaper columns, The Carnie Kid Tells All by Ilan Fisher.
The Carnie Kid is casebound, cloth over boards. It has a four-color dust jacket designed by local artist Jonathan Draudt, using a photograph taken by the author. I did graphic layout for the interior, as well as editing and publishing the book under my imprint, The Tamarac Press.
In 2008, my client published her book, The 8 Colors of Fitness, from Oakledge Press, on which I collaborated. Other clients' book projects are ongoing.
I continue to write for small magazines and Vermont journals, in addition to providing services as a freelance editor, writing coach, collaborator, and consultant, preparing manuscripts for submission to publishers, or shepherding works through the self-publishing process.
I am a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the National Writers Union, and am president of the League of Vermont Writers.
