There is nothing quite as thought provoking as when one turns the camera upon oneself, posing for the most flattering shot...Then, to stand before a group of strangers with that photograph in hand, hold it up and say "this is who I am..."
I sit up straight in my chair, poise for a moment and tap away at my keyboard in an attempt to demonstrate my "prose prowess" in the literary expression of who I am.
Hello! My name is Mike Lang.
I am a writer. I have been writing on just about everything since I was a kid and came to that realisation one afternoon whilst scrubbing the walls of our passage at home after a little "free expression". I was schooled during the apartheid era and fathered by a rather liberal news paper publisher, so the written word has not only been the source of my bread and butter, it has been the root to freedom and daring expression. I must admit however, that I have never really excelled at English and besides the setbooks at school which I was forced to read, I only read my first book, cover to cover, when I was thirteen! Not to say that I haven't caught up considerably since then. I work with children, teaching martial arts and would have to say that to help someone is the greatest pleasure for me, so reading about people who have made a difference or have some truth to express is evolutional. With regard to writing, I have some amazing stories to tell based on my personal life experiences from whitnessing my parents death when I was eight to surviving time in a third world prison when I was twenty four. I have written a book! I only hope that my ninth grade english teacher doesnt get hold of it. The book is a comic look at my life. Not only has it been of a therapeutic benefit to me, demanding that I search myself for reason and explanation of “plays”, it has encouraged me to share my life and what I have “learned” with the reader in the hope that they will recognize themselves in my reflection. I do not intend for the book to be of a teaching nature, but merely an opportunity for readers to reflect on my experiences.
Thank-you Interests: Apart from enduro bush biking, skydiving, body-boarding and flying aircraft, I must confess that of late, my time is swallowed up by my work teaching martial arts to children. Literature and discussion concerning metaphysics and philosophy are equally int
