Deborah Reber is a teen expert and the author of numerous self-help books for teens and tweens, including the forthcoming "Chill: Stress-Reducing Techniques for a More Balanced, Peaceful You" (Simon Pulse, April 2008), "In Their Shoes: Extraordinary Women Describe Their Amazing Careers" (Simon Pulse, April 2007), as well as the co-author of Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul's new book series "The Real Deal," author of “Run for Your Life: A Book for Beginning Women Runners” (Perigee Books, April 2002), and numerous children’s books based on the hit television show “Blue’s Clues” (Nickelodeon), including two NY Times Bestsellers. She is the co-editor of “Bold Ink: Collected Voices of Women and Girls” (WriteGirl Publications, 2003) and “Drawing Insight: Communicating Development through Animation” (Southbound Publishing, 1996).
Deborah is on the Board of Directors for the Seattle Girls' School and the Advisory Board for WriteGirl, a one-on-one mentoring programming matching teen girls with women writers for creative exploration.
She created the blog for young women, Smart Girls Know in 2007 (www.smartgirlsknow.com).
Deborah has a Master of Arts in Media Studies from the New School for Social Research in New York City (1996), and a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from the Pennsylvania State University (1991). Deborah lives in Seattle with her husband, Derin Basden, son and white German Shepherd. She is an avid runner, writer, pianist, and gardener.
