Ann Melrose is not known for doing anything conventional. She began storytelling at the age of 9, when she would haul her not-so-innocent brothers into the woods and tell them ghost stories to see how fast they could run home. From there she migrated to short stories and found she had a talent for taking the inner workings of her imagination and putting it down on paper for others to read. She also functions as a journalist and writes articles on health/medicine and technology for the newszine, Virginia News Source (www.virginianewssource.com).
Her first published short story, "Terror in the Woodpile" (1966) appeared in a local children's magazine. After that she switched to science fiction with "Have Suitcase Will Travel" (1968), and then found her niche in the horror/fantasy genre with such shorts as "Ritual Dream" and "Mommy's Dress." Her brief stint (20 years) as a Navy wife enabled her to visit the Caribbean and Europe (not everybody cheers for the bull at a bullfight in Puerto de Santa Maria). In 1989, Ann became both publisher and fiction editor of a new age magazine called Moonshadow. She is currently a fiction editor for an adult webzine and is working on her fourth novel and continues writing short fiction, as well as technology articles for a national medical magazine and science-related articles for Neverscience (www.neverscience.com). Since moving to North Carolina, Ann and her husband have become interested in cons and regularly attend Stellarcon, DragonCon, World Horror Con and several others. Interests: Horror, Science Fiction, Mystery, collecting books, travellng.
