“She’s got an active imagination,” my mother used to shrug. But when I said I wanted to be a writer, I felt the pat on my head and heard the sigh, “of course, you will, dear”.
So, I became an accountant.
I worked for a television studio in Germany and ended up, somehow, writing for a sitcom. I published a couple of short stories. Then I came to America. And language was the obvious roadblock.
So, I became a better-paid accountant.
While raising kids as a single parent I allowed the writing bug to lead me into the advertising and marketing arena. I designed brochures, flyers, magazine ads, and even radio commercials and learned to be precise to the count of 30 or 60 seconds. I published a no-nonsense guidebook on weddings. And, right here is the first time I admit: I have three fiction manuscripts under my bed. But financial obligations called and - you guessed it - I returned to being an excellent accountant.
But kids grow up and sometimes fate offers a glimmer (or blow) so while unemployed and wasting away watching talkshows... I rediscovered my passion. So while there are still three manuscripts under my bed collecting cat hair, there is also one earning royalties now and another is deeping its mystery plot...
So, I am a writer.
