I am a 57-year old woman, retired and living in Mexico with my Japanese husband. Prior to retiring here in July 2000, I was living and working in Nagoya, Japan where I taught school for 6 years. (I met and married my husband there.)
I have always been interested in writing and throughout my travels I corresponded regularly with many people via e-mail, most especially in Japan, where I chronicled my experiences to "the folks back home." I have taken writing seminars with Anne Cameron, a native author who lives in Powell River, British Columbia, Canada and Sharon Butala, another Canadian author who lives and writes in Saskatchewan. Both have praised me as a "fresh voice" and encouraged me to continue my writing. It wasn't until retirement that I felt compelled to begin.
I attend a writer's group which meets twice a month here in my small community on the shores of Lake Chapala in Cental Mexico. It was there that I read a piece I had recently written. The editor was in attendance and immediately offered to publish it. You can find it on their website, www.chapala.com, January 2002 issue of El Ojo del Lago magazine.
