Howard Hopkins

Old Orchard, Other US, United States

Home page:

Howard knew he'd have to write a western the moment a horse bit him in the britches... "Twenty-one western novels later, I still have no idea why that particular horse bit me, but I'm sure thankful for it!" The incident inspired a number of reviewer-acclaimed horror novels as well. Howard Hopkins lives in a Maine seacoast town and has published 17 hardcover westerns, under the penname Lance Howard, 11 of which have gone to large print editions. He is an Active member of the Western Writers of America, EPIC and an EPPIE finalist for his horror e-book novel, GRIMM. His large print Western WANTED is a November 2001 release and his hardcover Western, BANDOLERO, sees print November 28th, 2001. He is hard at work on his 18th, THE SILVERMINE SPOOK. During the late 80s-early 90s he produced and edited GOLDEN PERILS, a journal for fans of the pulp magazines from the 1930s, primarily focusing on Doc Savage, The Avenger and The Shadow. He has now resurrected it as a PDF e-mag. So far three issues have been produced (free PDF copy available upon request). He produced numerous other magazines in the field and wrote a comprehensive study of The Avenger character, as well as published over fifty articles on pulp characters for various other journals.
