After a few years of writing a prize-winning opinion column and numerous magazine articles, mostly on wildlife and the environment,I was suddenly stricken with that well-known malady of writers: the overpowering urge to write the Great Canadian Novel.
A sojourn at Dorland Mountain Arts Colony brought me the not altogether welcome realization that the final quarter of the book was not going to come as easily as the first three quarters had.
Struggles with an old fashioned typewriter (Dorland has no electricity) took up some time, but eventually the muse put in a reluctant appearance, and work resumed.
I have crossed the border between countries and the line between lassitude and the work ethic, and am now back in production.
