High Point, North Carolina, United States Email: weathfd@aol.com Carole Boston Weatherford is the author of more than a dozen books of nonfiction, poetry and children's literature. As an author, she mines the past for family stories, fading traditions and forgotten struggles. Her recent titles include Sink or Swim: African-American Lifesavers of the Outer Banks; The African-American Struggle for Legal Equality; Sidewalk Chalk: Poems of the City; and The Sound That Jazz Makes, an NAACP Image Award finalist and winner of the Carter G. Woodson Award from National Council for the Social Studies. Carole’s school performances mix poetry, history, chants and percussion and appeal to audiences of all ages and abilities levels. A newspaper columnist, Carole has been honored by the North Carolina Arts Council, North Carolina Poetry Society and North Carolina Press Association and received the Furious Flower Poetry Prize from James Madison University. She holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from UNC-Greensboro and an M.A. in publications design from the University of Baltimore.
