Orkide Ünsür is a published author and an award winning Turkish filmmaker from Istanbul. She was born in Ankara. She is originally from Balkan (Roumelia) as her grandparents came from Serres, Sofia, Kilkis and Thessaloniki. She graduated from the University of Istanbul, Faculty of Business Administration. She was trained as a filmmaker, successfully attending courses for camera, editing, interviewing technique organized by BBC team in ATV (1993) and by CNN International team in CNNTÜRK (1999). She worked as a TV reporter, an assistant director, an assistant producer, a script writer, a director and a producer in national TV channels and production companies. She directed promotion films as a freelance director; made two short documentaries one as a co-producer and one as an executive producer; worked in short movies as a production coordinator, an art director and an actress.
As a producer, director and screenplay writer, she created the two awarded short documentaries 8’den 8’e Sahildekiler (Coastlanders 8 to 8) (2009), Metruk (The Abandoned) (2010) and the awarded short screenplay Sitophobia (2011).
She acted as a jury member for the 11th National Short Film Festival (March 26-29, 2013) and she was a panelist for the 4 Film Directors, 4 Films “Women Behind the Camera” Film Screening and Panel Discussion.
Her first book Lâmia-KAN BAĞI (Lamia-CONSANGUINITY) has been published and released by Altınpost Yayıncılık (Altınpost Publishing) in March, 2015.
Orkide Ünsür has been working on her stories, her second novel as well as her film projects.
