Kame-Kujira Neko

Chiba, Japan

I am a Japanese author, and I am looking for a overseas publisher and translator for my work. My fiction centers on whales and is a fantastic marine adventure novel titled “Whale’s Ocean”. The novel was published in 1995 by Hyoron-sha. This publisher has brought “Watership Down”, “The Lord of the Rings”, “Earth’s Children” and other similar books here to Japan.

I like to consider that my novel, "Whale's Ocean", is the “Watership Down” or "Tailchaser's Song" of whales. I believe that the book would do well in the United Kingdom where the animal fantasy market is well developed, in Australia and New Zealand where citizens have a deep interest in marine mammals, and the U.S. where there is also interest in marine mammals, and where "Moby Dick" continues to be very popular.

Here in Japan, unfortunately, my work has not been highly received because it criticizes the Japanese whaling industry. However, it was greatly admired by a worldwide famous zoologist, and an environmental journalist who writes for major newspapers here in Japan on environmental issues. Also, translated excerpts have been highly evaluated by the celebrated author.

In addition, the sequel of "Whale's Ocean", which I call "Whale's Ocean -the Next Age-" has published on the web. The theme of the sequel is The Great East Japan Earthquake and the nuclear accident of Fukushima.

A few chapters of my novel have been preliminarily translated and can be found at the links below..
