Gini Sikes is an independent print, broadcast and radio journalist and author who has produced documentaries and written on a wide range of subjects. She was a senior editor at Mademoiselle and Metropolis magazines, and her articles have appeared in The Village Voice, Vibe, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Glamour, Cosmo, Travel and Leisure, TV Guide, All Animals among others. She is the author of 8-Ball Chicks: A Year in the Violent World of Girl Gangs. In television, she directed several episodes of MTVís "True Life" series, on drugs such as Ecstasy and OxyContin, youth violence, and teenage sexual health. She was nominated for a News Emmy for writing Where Were You At 22? a documentary that examines the lives of the 2000 presidential candidates when they were the age of MTV's viewers. She has also produced and written for Court TV, VH1, PBS, Discovery Health, TLC and Voice of America radio and was associate producer on the feature film Jesus Politics. helped launch, a website that explores issues surrounding the death penalty. Sikes is the recipient of a 2000-01 Knight Fellowship at Stanford University and a graduate of Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she previously worked as an adjunct for a magazine writing course.
