Joel Powell also known by his stage name Joel NR Powell is a DJ, Recording Artist, Author and Entrepreneur. Joel is also a graduate of Humber the Business School where he holds a Diploma in Business Management. He is President/CEO of his own company NR Entertainment Incorporated which is an entertainment corporation, which he created & branded five different entities Ninja Ryders Sound, NR Entertainment Records, NR TV, NR Films, & Golda’s Island Express Catering.
He has appeared & spoken as an expert on youth empowerment & motivation at the University of Toronto, George Brown College, Lester B. Pearson Collegiate, Lincoln Alexander Secondary School, Youth Unlimited and was a keynote speaker at the Multicultural Business Network International Canada where he spoke on how to overcome the hurdles towards becoming a successful entrepreneur.
He has appeared in print on several occasions and has been featured in prominent national periodicals such as XXL Magazine, The Source Magazine, Toronto Life Magazine, & Caribbean Camera. In addition he appeared on the cover of Humber the business school’s 1st edition magazine, be Magazine which discusses the success stories of business school graduates.
He has authored an award winning title “Black Empowerment & Minority Issues” a book to which shares many of his personal business experiences plus gives strong insight on life as a visible minority in regards to the struggles they face daily in both their professional & personal lives. The book was awarded best selling nonfiction title for 2011 inside Canadian bookstore Knowledge Book Store.
Powell’s well versed acumen in the field of Entertainment has led him to host his own online radio show on www.Sensimedia.Net, released & hosted over 200 promotional mix tapes, Djayed at numerous clubs, weddings, festivals, stage shows, house parties across Canada & made frequent radio appearances on notable Canadian radio stations such as CHRY 105.5 fm & CKLN 88.1 fm. He also had the privilege of being the exclusive DJ for Canadian Rapper K-OS brother’s wedding. In addition he is the 2nd place winner of the “Club Epiphany DJ Competition” where he competed against 20 other Disc Jockeys to become 2nd place winner.
As a Recording Artist he has released 2 successful EP recordings both helped to propel him towards becoming myspace.com2008 #1 unsigned indie artist for 2 months generating over 1 million plus downloads for original music. He has participated in two Canadian Tours with prominent artists: Rapper Tech N9ne & Rapper Jadakiss. He also recorded the highly successful “They look at me” featuring Rapper Lil Eazy-E son of Hip Hop Icon Eazy-E which is distributed globally through amazon.com & Itunes.com.
Currently, he is putting the finishing touches on a 3 part project entitled the “Empowerment series” which consist of the book “Black Empowerment & Minority Issues”, the film “Empowerment through Awareness” and the EP soundtrack”7 Issues”. Due out early next year. In addition he continues to brand his name by conducting speaking engagements and seminars.
