Robert Birnschein

Sun Prairie , Wisconsin, United States

Home page:

Robert E. Birnschein earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. After teaching high school for several years, he moved into various manufacturing industry positions. At one time he landed what still seems a dream job with a NASA subcontractor, and helped design and assemble plant growth research experiments that actually flew on the space shuttle up to the International Space Station.

As with most authors, he has been an avid reader since childhood. When he was a boy he stumbled across The City of Gold and Lead by John Christopher in the meager science fiction section of his small, rural school library. It was the first book to open his imagination beyond the small world he knew, and started his journey to thousands of planets, peoples, and stories since. Today, he still quests for unique, and perhaps forgotten science fiction stories among the dusty shelves of second hand book stores.

When his own children were younger, Robert thoroughly enjoyed telling fantastical bed-time stories and keeping them up longer than they should have been! Later on, his children encouraged him to put to paper some of the stories they'd enjoyed the most, and that had gotten more detailed with every re-telling. About this time, Robert also remembered a long lost novel he'd started in college and that had been languishing unfinished for too many years. Once he'd gotten started, the creative juices flowed once again and old ideas, and new stories clamored to be written.

In the near future, Robert plans to travel the world and see it's many beaches, always with a good book in hand. A beach vagabond, or beachabond if you will.

He currently lives in Wisconsin with his ever-encouraging daughter, imaginative son, and devoted dog.
