Akmal Wasim

Graduated in Law from Karachi University in 1982. On 17/9/1984 was enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court. Established own office under the name and style of Wasim & Co., Advocates & Legal Consultants, from where pursued professional practice. which focused extensively on the Criminal and Civil Jurisdictions of law. . In 1985-6 remained as an honorary professor of law at the Sindh Muslim Law College, teaching the First Year LL.B. classes, International Law. Between 1984 and 1992 was retained on the Panel of Advocates of the Federal Government, and thus availed the opportunity of specializing in Constitutional Law, by virtue of extensive appearances and proceeding in briefs before the Hon’ble High Court of Sindh. Between 1984 and 1999, remained as the Legal Advisor and/or on the panel of numerous Department/Institutions of the Govt.of Pakistan; remained Special Prosecutor of Customs and Narcotic, both before the Trial Court as well as the Special Appellate Court established in the High Court of Sindh. In July 1994, was slected b y the U.S. Government through USIA, to represent Pakistan on a study tour of ‘The Judicial and Legal system of the U.S’. Have the privilege of being the sole participant from Pakistan, amongst other countries from Asia, Pacific, Eastern Europe, and Africa. During 10/01/1996 and 30/06/1996, served with the Government of Sindh, as Assistant Advocate General, in and thus handled a plethora of Constitutional and Criminal side Cases, during the most turbulent period of terrorism and extra judicial killings. Between June and August 1996, remained as the Advisor to the Ministry of Human Rights; and in such capacity had the onerous responsibility for over seeing, liaising, with the concerned departments. of GOP, with regard to the reports and queries from the International Human Rights Organizations, and monitoring Human Rights Abuses, within the legal domain. On 25/03/1997, was admitted and enrolled, by the Pakistan Bar Counsel to appear as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Between 1997 and 1998, Again had the privilege of teaching Business Law, at Hamdard University, and once again had an exposure on the academic side of Law.
In 2001, gave up active practice. Decided to relocate, and took up writing as full time occupation.
Presently Member of Supreme Court of Pakistan Bar Association, Sindh High Court Bar Association, and the Karachi Bar Association, and Associate, American Bar Association.
