I was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1941, but have travelled extensively since. I now divide my time between my house in West Cork, Ireland, and an apartment in Paris, France.
I have been writing fiction and nonfiction from approximately 1965: short stories, articles, showbusiness profiles, biographies and novels. My work includes the transatlantic bestselling novels, GENESIS (1980) and REVELATION (1982), as well as a Number I US bestseller, THE ILLUSTRATED ELVIS.
The past decade has seen the British publication of the long-running paranoid-thriller series of novels, PROJECT SAUCER, including INCEPTION (1991), PHOENIX (1995), GENESIS (1980/1995), MILLENNIUM (1995) and RESURRECTION (1999). Only two of these novels, INCEPTION and GENESIS, have been published in the United States.
Other novels in this genre include: OTHERWORLD, EDEN, THE CRYSTAL SKULLS, THE LODESTONE and DREAM MAKER. Only the latter was published in the United States, but in a trancated version.
I also write Special Air Service (SAS) adventure thrillers under the pseudonym 'Shaun Clarke'. These include the bestselling epic, THE EXIT CLUB, as well nine others. The latest is NIGHT RIDER, published in hardcover by Hodder & Stoughton in May 2001 and in paperback by Coronet in July the same year. None of these novels have been published in the United States.
I am also the author of the radio plays, ASTRONAUT and FATHER AND SON, both of which have been broadcast by the British Broadcasting Service (BBC).
My early Australian novel, THE RUNNING MAN (1967), was turned into an 'art house' movie called THE CITY'S EDGE.
My last two books were the non-fiction works, THE WRITING GAME: RECOLLECTIONS OF AN OCCASIONAL BESTSELLING AUTHOR, available only on the Internet from www.pabd.com and Amazon Books, and ALL AT SEA ON THE GHOST SHIP, a book-length memoir of a lengthy voyage on a container ship, also available only on the internet, from www.booksurge.com and Amazon Books.
