Overview:
Our Mission: Brown Paper Press engages readers on topics of contemporary culture through quality writing and thoughtful design. Unbound by genre, our press delivers socially relevant works that advise, guide, inspire and amuse. We champion authors with new perspectives, strong voices and original ideas that just might change the world. Our Story: A mere 50 years ago, writers were expected to write, and publishers were expected to publish. That's not the case anymore. In American's major publishing houses, writers are all but required to be everything to everyone. Not only must their ideas appeal to the mass market, but they are expected to come to the table with an existing audience, as well concrete strategies for marketing and promotion. None of those things are bad, of course. But there is a downside, and it's this: Great writing is being passed over every single day. We want to help change that. Look, great writers are not always extroverted or Twitter-literate. Great writers don't always make great salespeople or self-promoters. Great writers don’t always write with mainstream audiences in mind. And, you know what? That's okay. Large publishing houses can't always afford to let their writers do what they do best — but we can. And we will. Brown Paper Press is a full-service publishing company based in Long Beach, California. We work with a small but mighty team of editors, designers, marketers and promoters. We offer our authors generous royalties; creative and flexible marketing plans; and one-on-one attention (i.e., we handle author meltdowns really well.) We guarantee you we'll help make your book better. And, largely because we like our planet and would like to see it around a lot longer, we employ print-on-demand and e-book technologies as often as possible — a decision that also means our books never go out of print.
