Want to know how I became what I am today?
Blessed with above average intelligence and the enviable position of second trombone in high school band, I used my grunge Courtney Love good looks to propel me from my home town to a rocking liberal arts school thirty miles away. Years of a steady diet including alcohol, egotism, and recreational pharmaceuticals aided my creative mind, and I considered myself quite the dark poet. To emphasize this, I went through the transformation from Courtney Love to Trent Reznor, and adopted an attire consisting primarily of black flowing skirts and metal studs.
After graduation, I joined the "real world" for several years, only to find it didn't suit. Shortly after, I rejoined the lemmings of liberal arts, hoping to find enlightenment in a dusty tome.
All during this time, I believed that a higher power would lift me up and prove to the world how wonderful a writer I really am; despite repeated letters to Santa Claus, however, I remain unemployed and living in my parent's basement.
And that is the story of how I became what I am today.

Nice. Clean writing, political edge, tormented protag, good hook, no overwriting. What's not to love?

"Want to know how I became what I am today?"
Uh. . . no.

Actually, I like it a lot.
Clean, crisp with a twist at the end, and very much to the point - which I am a fan of.
Good prose.

Okay, okay. I admit that I don't live in my parent's basement. That was part of my poetic license.
So what do you think? Given my qualifications, surely I could be the national poet of America.
