ACK! P&E has been down for hours

I heavily rely on their site when doing my research!

Can anyone tell me the skinny on Ashley Grayson?

Yes! He's a very congenial fellow. He's been an agent for about twenty-five years. He works with his wife Carolyn, who is also an agent.

He's very knowledgable about technology and issues related to technology in terms of Web presence, author marketing, that sort of thing.

He's a good communicator and has a sense of humor. He and his wife know many people in the speculative fiction crowd.

I don't know what his tastes are in terms of the manuscripts he likes to rep, but he strikes me, like most of the agents I've met, to be selective. I think that's probably a trait of any agent who's been in the business a long time and I'm sure he's no exception.

Personally I liked both him and his wife, but you should try, if possible to contact some of his authors and see how they feel. That's almost always the best way to get an idea of how any particular agent works. They're all different.

Thank you, Sarah, for the link.

Thank you, Mya, for that wonderful information. After having been burned so badly by my first agent, I'm being super careful to thoroughly research every agent I'm querying.

Just today I received a rejection letter from Donald Maass -- personal and helpful, but a rejection nonetheless. Needless to say, I'm crushed...but pressing on. (Donald was one of my "top three" choices.)

    Really? That's news to me.

Regardless, we maintain P&E on two different servers with two different hosts, so one is almost always bound to be up and they're identical except for the paragraph that thanks the host (the host names are different, obviously).

So, you can look for either http://anotherealm.com/prededitors or http://www.invirtuo.cc/prededitors because they're both updated daily with the same information.

    Thanks, Dave.

I kept getting a weird "SPOOL" error when I tried to go to the main page, and when I tried to go directly to the agent page, I got a simple "page not available." Since it was the only web site I was having trouble with today, I assumed something was amiss!

Anyway, I'm very glad to have my much-needed resource back.

Ashley Grayson has a longish interview in the Jeff Herman book each year listing his preferences, tastes, etc.

He also has another agent working with him besides Carolyn. The young man's name escapes me at the moment, but he's in the agency's listing in the JH book too.
