Should I protect my work before querying? If so, h

Well, novel's done and edited to the best of my ability...Are there any precautions I can/should take to protect my work before beginning to query? I've heard it's unnecessary, but I'd like confirmation.

    Any advice is appreciated ^_^

Go to google and look up copyright law. That's the best you can do.

I don't bother to flatter myself by thinking someone is going to find my writing valuable enough to steal.

If you formally copyright it you'll look like an ameature. Your publisher will do it for you in the future!

And no real agent will steal your work.
Scammers can't sell at thing and just want money.
