    Rejected by God?

I just got back from an extended trip to darkest Texas, anticipating a response from an agent who some weeks ago had requested a partial based on a query. Arrived at home to discover that we'd had a severe windstorm that had blown over the entire structure housing the seven or eight mailboxes for my little cul-de-sac street. Is this a sign?

It's a sign that your stuff is so great that the agent was blown away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the windstorm.

Are you sure it wasn't a bomb?

RR, that's hilarious. Sad but hilarious.

But realistically, buck up. I've never had an agent who requested a partial/full respond via mail. It's email, the phone, or nothing. Or, um, maybe the mail. But rarely.

I had one request for a full via mail. It was actually addressed to "Robert Raven," and blew in with a recent windstorm.

(Seriously, though, I had one request for a full--based on a partial--via snail mail)

But you said it blew "over," so your mailbox is still standing and available to receive mail, right?

God does not do form letters

    Dear Roger Ravens,

God never rejects anyone. However, he hasn't published anything new in 2,000 years as the market is so difficult and would like to thank you for letting him take a look at your materials. The volume of submissions he receives, however, makes it impossible to correspond with everyone personally.

Unfortunately, the project you describe does not suit his list at this time. He wishes you the best of luck in finding an agent and publisher for your work and thanks you, once again, for letting him consider your materials.

    Bestest, bestest regards,

    -some assistant
