    Gotta be a record...

Just got a response back from a May 15, 2003 query. It was my original letter with "NO" scribbled across the top. No form letter, slip, or card--just "NO".

It took her 189 days to come up with such an eloquent, thoughtful, and encouraging response. Some of these "agents" need a serious course of Manners 101.

    DB,
I think I would have rather not recieved anything at all than to get a response like that.

    How horribly rude.

I've wanted to keep a list of really snotty agents but I seem to be the only one. If your willing to name her/him, I'd like to start the damn list and offenses.

Actually, instead of exposing her rudeness to the masses and cutting off her flow of queries, I'm hoping she'll continue getting more and more of them and eventually suffocate under a mountain of paper. This process is bringing out my vindictive side.

Record? Not a chance, at least in terms of time of response. My personal champ is 18 months. Several more at longer than a year. Several more, never.

I got a "Not for us, thanks anyway" from a publisher, two-and-a-half years later. Six months per word.

    Beat that one, suckas.
