Re: Niniver
Gary,
You know you bring up a good point. Now that you mention it, I can see editors reading a query letter in much the same way I review resumes and cover letters. You give it a quick scan to see what's what, and then look further.
So, yeah, it probably doesn't help all that much to bury the word count at the bottom!

Oops! Have to do some research about history of Samarkand. Glad you mentioned it. So interesting that you were in Afghanistan. When was that? I haven't gone back, although I can now. To tell you the truth, I have no wish to go back. Too many bad experiences as a woman. My daughter has tried desperately that I accompany her. I wouldn't.

My replies tend to be tagged at the end, but that's because I'm seldom on the puter during daylight hours..lol
Personally I'd save the agent compliments until I have a working relationship going. I would imagine they'd believe you think somewhat highly of them if you're querying them and if not well....If you snag the agent you want, there will sure to be emails and phone conversations. You can tell them then that you've heard great things or better yet, when they get you published.

Re: Niniver
Robert, I googled "Samarkand, Uzbekistan, History" and got the following:
"Samarkand is of the same age of Babylon or Rome. It's history is about 2500 years old." etc.
Now, if I say ancient Babylon, would that be wrong?
