--basically. In your queries, then, just add a sentence that you're writing under the pseudonym "Nom de Plume" or whatever.

    Re: using a pen name

    Hi Connie,
With my last manuscript, I put the pseudonym in the header, but in my query and subsequent correspondence with my agent, I used my name. I used my name for the bio as well, but explained in the query that I was marketing the manuscript with the pseudonym.

    Re: using a pen name

    I regularly use several names.

In the upper left hand corner of short pieces, or in the lower left hand corner of a full-length manuscript cover sheet I put:

    Pseudonym
Legal Name: with my legal name
    Rest of my contact info

The letters/queries to the agent always use my real name, with a mention in the body of the letter when I first refer to the piece with the title and then, in parenthesis "written as" and the pseudonym.

When it comes to contract time, I make very sure it is listed in the contract which name is to appear on the work, in the publicity, etc., and to which name (my legal name) the checks are made out to. Also stipulated in the contract is whether or not my legal name can be used anywhere outside the publishing house/agent relationship.

    Good luck!

How do I register and use the name. Do I need a DBA on file?
