    How does that "Discover Great New Writers" thing work? I've seen it at all the B&N's and wondered how they chose them... I guess buttering up the store manager doesn't help any?

    Every three months a selection committee from Barnes & Noble in New York picks 15-20 books written by previously unpublished writers. The books have to be submitted to B&N by the book's publisher. Typically there are a couple of hundred entries each quarter. For summer 2006, 17 books were selected.
