Amazon
I may be beating a dead horse here, but...
I have have heard that under 2k on Amazon is very good and under 5k is good.
Any wisdom on the voodoo sales ranking that is Amazon?
Thanks,
Harper

Re: Amazon
Hey Harper, does that mean your book is out?

Re: Amazon
It is! Typically hovering under 4k on Amazon, but has gotten as low as 1700-ish. Profiled in the May issue of Oprah. Selected for the Barnes & Nobles fall Discover Great New Writers series. Kind of a rush!

Re: Amazon
The trouble is, the rankings are relative to whatever else is selling at the moment. I can tell you with some certainty that in February, a ca. 4,000 ranking meant sales of 3 to 4 copies per day, but it could be quite different now.
Congrats on your book!

Re: Amazon
Excellent news! Congratulations! (And yes, those rankings rock.)

Re: Amazon
Ignore any dips. While I was proud when my book broke #10,000, I knew this was merely a blip in the stats, because sales certainly didn't jump! (I think four sold in a single day or something.) Even though sales are now four or five times the daily average back then, I'm happy with #50,000.
If you get inside #10,000... & stay there for a few weeks or a month, then you're talkin'.
Best of thoughts -- I hope I'm fortunate enough to join you at that level someday.

Re: Amazon
Hey Harper...Those are great numbers. Congratulations, and welcome to the Disover Great New Writers program. That's two of us from WN (that I know of) this year!

Re: Amazon
Thanks, Daniel, and congratulations to you, too! I am definitely going to look for your book. Here's a question for you, though: In the B&N stores you have been in, is the Discover Great New Writers section well positioned? In the store near me it is way in the back of the store near the fiction shelves. You'd really have to be looking for it to find it. This bothers me because my book is going to be there, but also because there are so many interesting books that could be getting a much bigger showcase if they were up front. Also, if they are choosing these books to promote good writing, why wouldn't they want to also promote the sales of those books by putting them up front where people looking for good new books tend to browse for them?
I'm going to post this in Agents, also, in case you don't see it here.
