A tad cliché but JK Rowling inspired to turn my short story into a children's novel. And Michael Crichton always got my attention.

I like Michael Crichton's books, The Andromeda Strain, in particular. Great story.

My favorite author is Louis L' Amour. Crossfire Trail is one of my favorites of his works. Also any of the Sackett Series. Favorite non-fiction: Education of a Wandering Man.
Louis L'Amour's books have been enormously popular. Most of them have gone into several printings and many have been made into movies. Who doesn't like a good western? Have you seen Lonesome Dove?

L'Amour is great. My fourth grade teacher turned me on to him when I was in my early twenties, and I ripped through all his books in about six months. I also liked the Sackets and bought that series.
Right now--devouring everything I can lay my hands on by Laura Lippman. I've never been a mystery or series reader, but loving her Tess Monaghan, PI series.
I've read The Accidental Tourist and Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler, and enjoyed them both. I think I'll choose another of her novels for my weekend reading. If anyone can recommend one it would be appreciated.

BookWerm, I haven't read anything by Laura Lippman. But I'll add her name to my "must read" list.

I don't have a single favorite author--there are just too many excellent writers that I enjoy. Barbara Kingsolver is very high on my list. The Poisonwood Bible is one of the best books I've ever read. Toni Morrison has to be on the list, and Jane Smiley's A Thousand Acres and Horse Heaven are two books I highly recommend. I also enjoy James Lee Burke and Dick Francis novels. Right now I'm reading a lot of David Sedaris, who is one of the funniest writers alive.
