    The eyes, they follow me.

    Start with this line for your opening and work on showing us what unfolds when this character envisions the evil lurking in the midst.

    Before they disintegrate, etc. are fragments which you could use later on in the story, but I wouldn't group them together.
    Each could be used to thicken the plot if your character's interactions propel interesting scenarios readers might appreciate when internal dialog is needed.

    I agree, start with the eyes. Otherwise not enough to pass judgement on. I always give an author one page before putting the book back on the shelf.
