Leslee, you do not need a hard copy of your book in order to epublish on kindle. You could upload your book right this minute, add a book cover, agree to their arrangements (70% royalty US and other territories, 35% UK and other countries, etc. read fine print). You never really have to have a hard copy book. You own the rights, because you are considered the publisher.

I found the formatting to be easy. At least what they are asking for formatting. But, I haven't uploaded yet, so I guess I will find out shortly.

James- do you do your own book covers? I thought I'd use/enhance a picture from one of those "stock photo" sites, where you can use them free of charge. What are your thoughts on that?

England has been a 70% country for some time now.

Yes, I do my own covers using the CS cover creator for free. I buy the rights to a photo from one of the on line sites and put something like: “Cover photo © 2011. Image from Bigstock.com.” So far I have been able to find photos that fit well with my books. I do not like some of their cover creator templates, but some of them are good for my type of books.

What if all you want is a plain cover with letters? Like red and white or black and white. Easily done? I think most book covers are awful.

Can you put a photo on the back cover?

Thanks, Avonne, Gary, Lea, James. I appreciate the help and good advice.

I doubt I'll have my book ready by my birthday, partly because I won't have the income to buy a proper cover from a friend until mid-November. Still, once I have my first one up on Amazon, I now know where to get a print edition so that people can get it autographed. Thanx, Avonne, for the pointer!

Only after the fact, and only after customers complained. And there are a lot of other distributors (including B&N) that will still carry it in e-book form for you.

It is not about incest or rape. It is not about vampires or werewolves. It is not part of any trend.

It is graphic, horny sex between consenting adults as part of a fully-explored storyline with a beginning, middle and end. You know. An old-fashioned, well-written novel.

Think anyone still wants to read one of those?

Vampires/werewovles with graphic, horny sex and not part of any trend? Surely you jest. You haven't browsed the e-book aisles, have you? The lists are full of it.
