Story contest offers all entrants a free critique

Prizes totalling $700 can be won for short fiction in any genre in the summer 2011 round of the Writers’ Village ‘Best Writing’ award. The top award is $310, with a $155 second prize and third prize of $75 plus five runner-up prizes of $32.

All entrants, winners or not, gain a brief expert critique of their story.

Winners will be awarded the title ‘Winner, the Writers’ Village Best Writing summer 2011 Award’ and see their work showcased online.

Any genre of prose fiction may be submitted up to 3000 words, except playscripts and poetry. Entries are welcomed world-wide. The fee is $15 for two entries and multiple entries are permitted. Deadline is 30th June 2011. Entry rules plus all winning stories since 2009 can be found at: http://www.writers-village.org

    I'll see you there

...and all you need is 47 people to enter and you've made a profit.

Gadzooks, sir, you have outed me! In fact, I barely break even. I run the contest (believe it or not) as a retirement hobby. When the wind's in the right quarter, I may earn enough to pay for a little beer and baccy. But to read the winning entries is a joy. I always wonder why the writers aren't banking six-figure royalties from Random House. I'd put some of my recent winners up against Phillippa Gregory, any day.
