Laura Daltry's book
Just got a draft from a friend of mine of a new book by Los Angeles Times writer and screenwriter Laura Daltry. It's so good - political, philosophical, funny, set in 1966 in Malibu. The protagonist is a genius and a billionaire 16-year-old girl -- what a heroine/fantasy character. Lots about the Vietnam war, set in both Saigon and in Los Angeles, and what it did to people across the spectrum. And a love triangle between the girl and two best friends/emerging artists. Lots of layers of international corruption, the art and cultural and political turmoil of the sixties. Even Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, lots of 60's icons from movies, politics, art back then, even the kind of crackpot psychological movements going on back then. She keeps a lot of plates spinning at once. And, it's funny, with very witty dialogue and juxtiposition of what people are saying and what they're really thinking. She hasn't got a book deal, yet, but it's a good read and I hope the best for her.

Re: Laura Daltry's book
Vietnam, Malibu, a love triangle, a billionaire teen, Cary Grant, Liz Taylor, political turmoil, international corruption, crackpot psychological movements... I was just looking for a book that includes these things. Unfortunately, Ms. Daltry left out my other interests: mimes, the prison system, and cloud formations. If she could include those things too, I will take a look at the manuscript. Bonus points for a prologue involving the kitchen sink.

Wow, I think that's a record. First post and you prove yourself to be a b....... (I'm nicer than you are)
And why would we give you any info on a nice, intelligent writer's site? They don't deserve someone like you. And I can't wait to see you banned from this site.

And for the record. . .any book that has to reference all those things, probably doesn't have much of a plot.

Does anyone out there know of a thoughtful, intelligent writer's site?
Do your own homework. You're the big know-it-all, right?
Too bad this is not a thoughtful site.
Yeah, and you're such a thoughtful participant.
Laura Daltry has been an unfailing friend to me and my family since the 70's.
Oh, goodie.
