    collective nouns


    hello all,

    A few weeks ago, I discovered the collective noun for a group of ladybirds was...

    "a loveliness of ladybirds".

    I am also recently impressed by "a clowder of cats".

    Does anyone have any other fine collective nouns?
    And are collective nouns generally alliterative?

    One particular collective noun for boars is "a singular of boar". I'm not sure how that works. I'd think they'd at least go with a plural of boar.

    Lounge of lizards makes me laugh, too.

    There is a wonderful children's picture book called A Cache of Jewels that is all about collective nouns. I used to read it to my kids when they were little:
