Dont stick your stump in my eye when it was your fault

Bloke I know lost his arm in an explosion near some sand dunes; I carried him back across a mine field full of dead sheep. Oh... and the seagulls lost one leg at a time trying to eat the sheep as they detonated the mines themselves... but too fast to get blown to smithereens.

    Blast From The Past

Hop scotch in fields of mutilated sheep.
One legged sea gulls get to keep
there other leg for comedy form,
    genitals stretched bloodied and torn.

Iced morning stink, trench foot in boots.
Needs shelter of tents, dry for the troops.
But hand of fate, how’s that for a pun
waits at the seaside tiddly om pom pom

A pin is mightier than the sword.
To know this grace would save our Lord,
    from a teenager seeking redemption
and second class ticket to the Ascension.

Mind corrosion explosion pin pointed sear,
silence his screams, plastic faces I’d fear.
Amateur war theatre, actor left stumped.
Two mile journey like para I humped.

For two days in dark rigid combats I stood,
and if your buying its four pints of blood.
Stinking wet dogs have better than this.
9 Battery’s mine and my arse you will kiss.

I can just see Astaire and Rogers dancing to this.

    Martin,

I'm not into poetry and I don't really like rhyming poems but I love some of the imagery here. I found "hop scotch of mutilated sheep... and torn" really evocative.

Sorry Martin, I assumed you were joking.

Although I can't say it's my cup of tea, I found the line "A pin is mightier than the sword" to be rather clever.

    The optimistic officer

Lets not give up lads while we still have our wits.
Our dysentery will sound like thundering horses,
and cracking backs like misfiring flares in the night.
We’ll fly our frost bitten fingers as poison arrows,
and roll dead sparrows in limed graves,
to throw them as patronising grenades of white feathers.

Love letters in the pockets of our missing friends,
will bring them tears like mustard gas,
and bloated corpses we shall hang on empty rifles…
to be seen as soldiers that march on full bellies.
We shall have white horses to ride away on.
So don’t give up lads lets make them think twice .

Did these a while back before I started my story. Someday I hope I can go back to poetry again, but you all know there isn’t any money in it even if you do get published. With a wife and four kids pound sounds are never far from my thoughts.
