    Try planting a device (an object, a comment, a memory) in the body of your story that serves as a connection to the discovery/history later on.

    A couple more ideas that might help:

    1 - Skip to the end and flesh out the discovery and the history. That way when you pick up where you left off, you'll know exactly where you're going.

    2 - Entertain the possibility that what you have so far may actually be the middle or the end of your story. In the novel that I just completed, the first chapter I wrote ended up in the middle of the story, rather than the beginning.
