    Chapters

I have a feeling that my chapters are running a little short. Is that possible?

Using your standard 12pt, I'm averaging six printed pages per chapter.

So how long are your standard chapters and is there is such a thing?

Advice is good, but feel free just to share for the heck of it.

You can use as many or as few chapters as you want. There's no rule. Some people like short chapters so it's easier to find a good stopping place.

Depends on your style. I have chapters that are only a half a page long. No rules.

I'm with Jena. I rarely exceed 10 pages.

I try to average my chapters to 10-12 pages, but some run over 20. Can chapters be too long?

    Re: Chapters

I think they can. Sometimes I "just want to read to the end of this chapter" only to find it goes on...and on...and on.

    Re: Chapters

I'll think I'll stick with my average of six, then. I've got page breaks all over the place because the perspective moves around alot in the beginning, so I have lots of good stopping/starting points to choose from.

I take as long or as short as needed to make a point.

    I don't think there's a one-size-fits-all option here.

Heck, Lewis Carol had a chapter that was one sentence, didn't he?

    Lewis Carroll.

    Sheesh.
