    Re: Are standards changing?

    Nancy,

Are you aware of the story of Confederacy? I used to live in New Orleans, and Toole's mother was right out of his book. She was asked to speak at Tulane's commencement because of her role in the book's publication. She showed up in a rented limosine in a floor length formal gown. When they called her up to the stage she wanted to sing show tunes.

    Re: Are standards changing?

    Xavier,

Oh dear. I'd heard that Toole's momma flatly denied any resemblance to Ignatius's mother, despite indications to the contrary.

I'm also aware of the posthumous publication story (I think it's included in the forward), but I'd heard nothing of his mother's singing ability. Did she at least leave her clothes on?

And hey, if you've got anymore Confederacy beans to spill, I'm feeling peckish. :0

Sorry, that's pretty much all the dirt I've got. I think she was a terrible singer.
