    Re: Punctuating Decryptions

In the context of your query, I like the colon--HATE the comma. And I'm not crazy about the dash, but it wouldn't be incorrect. You see my reasoning above. I think the dash could throw off the meaning of the message.

The other reason I'm for the colon as I eluded to above, is because of the mathematical implications of using the ratio symbol. 5:2 expresses the relation in degree or number between two similar things. I think you could apply that reasoning to your code.

Go with the slash. It's the best of all of them, in my opinion. Second choice is colon.

This has been very interesting and fun. Thanks, Dave.

    Re: Punctuating Decryptions

Hmmm. So, really, which do you think is best for each decryption Bea (or anyone else)?

1a. GO/DAVE. HE: WINNER OR GAINS.
    2a. HORDE/EVIL. ILL REIGN WANS.
    3a. DOER/A GIVER. A HINTER SWAN.

    -- or --

1b. GO: DAVE. HE: WINNER OR GAINS.
2b. HORDE: EVIL. ILL REIGN WANS.
    3b. DOER: A GIVER. A HINTER SWAN.

Decryption 1 has a noun-not-directly-related-to-next-noun start, Decryption 2 has a noun adjective start, and Decryption 3 has a noun-directly-related-to-next-noun start. Sorry for the childish description there, but in my limited grammatical lingo, that's what I came up with.

Personally, I hate the colons and slashes. But again, its a personal call.

I'll bow out of this one now.

Hey Arden. Can you supply me with a few links to examples of the dashes in use the way you use them?

Thanks for all of your help.

Dashes are correct as Arden said, but it's difficult in this context (IMO). David, it's your call. I think it's preference really.

    Yeah, you guys have fun.

    Ce Ce, you're hilarious!

NOte: This is one of those threads that I want to stop reading, but continue to mill about--even though it's tearing me apart to keep reading...if that makes any sense. But I do realize, for some, that this is the sh** for them, and so I can't knock it. Enjoy!
