Re: We Try to Keep Things PG-13

Thanks, Hamish. That's exactly what I was trying to say.

Re: We Try to Keep Things PG-13

I guess as a father of two young daughters, what I consider inappropriate may be different than what I thought when I was a young man with a frequent tendency towards seedy thoughts. Nonetheless, referring to the female reproductive organs in a pornographic manner, over and over, using a term that's derogatory--well, that's inappriate.

I'm baffled how any of you think that freedom of speech applies on a website that ain't owned by you.

Re: We Try to Keep Things PG-13

I only WISH there had been something like Writers Net and all the other websites for writers when I was 12 years old. Despite all the obvious shortcomings, places like this encourage young potential writers simply by assuring them they are part of a community of like-minded folks. It really lifts your eyes to the horizon and makes life a lot less lonely. One of the real powers of the internet is the ability for people of like-minded but unusual interests to find each other despite being spread sparsely across the greater population.

^_^ my generation does seem to be lucky in that way. I don't know what I'd do without places like WritersNet ^_^ Is that healthy?

Censorship is a sad thing, and it's spreading. Ideas, and public dialogue, cannot flourish when repressed. Passing such an insidious thing as censorship off as "protecting," someone, children or anyone else, while well intentioned, is intellectually lazy and morally dishonest.

Censorship can be a good thing if moderately used. There is a place and crowd for everything. That is all I have to say.
