    Re: ''

    hi,

thanks everyone. I was using both " " and ' ' in my manuscript and even after numerous proofreaders, no one ever said anything. I finally just noticed myself and decided I might as well try to find which one was right. I think I'm gonna go w/ " " and use ' ' only in dialogue. I think I may have been getting confused cause I read a lot of british writers.

Ryan- "taking something audible and trying to make it visual. It doesn't work."

What are we doing as writers, then? We're all doomed!

    Precisely. :-)

"Aw, maaan. I'd just finished washing my 'vette when this total 'HOC Nazi' waddles up and gives me a ticket for parking on the fn lawn! Can you believe this crap?"

    I think I said that backwards. :-)

I meant that you can't SPEAK with "quoted material". But, if you DO manage to put emphasis on a word for the purpose of being SIMILAR to quoting the material, quoting the word within dialog doesn't connotate that emphasis.

    Hmmm.

It all sounds rather circular. I'll leave now.

Don't leave, Ryan. Running in circles keeps me off the streets. :-D

Alright, Carol...for you, I'll keep running in circles. It may put my life in jeopardy, or alienate myself from the rest of WN, but you'll be protected.

    Super-Ryan saves the day!
