I'm enroute to insanity!

About three months ago I posted this question and need to do so again because I'm slowly goin' insane with the same problem I have never resolved.

Put on your magic hats, please!

Problem: No matter what I do, I cannot get rid of the red NEW beside new posts on these WN boards. HELP!

I should mention this massive problem began only three months ago.

Anyway, after reading posts, I either hit RETURN TO TOPIC or MARK ALL READ or RETURN TO TOP, then exit the board to access another board. When I return -- no matter which board -- the red NEW is beside posts.

Have I elevated myself to another planet? I'm going insane with the inconvenience of not being able to get rid of the red NEW.

Hm, the only way all the red "new" tags show up for me all over again is if I've deleted all the cookies in C:/Windows. It's like starting from scratch. I have to re-enter passwords and user IDs again. Major pain. Maybe you're having a cookie problem?

I wonder if it has anything to do with the level of security you've got set on your browser; e.g., if you have it set up so that WN can't leave a cookie on your machine?

I'm making this up out of whole cloth, but it seems to me that this might account for its not remembering what you've looked at.

Sometimes I will have red NEW tags even on stuff I've read before. Today, however, it is only on one forum, Published authors. Weird stuff.

There is nothing wrong with my cookies!

It's the website.

It's just for some forums, but which ones varies. One day it's this one, and none of the other ones. Some days it's all of them except one. Sometimes it's everyone of them. Sometimes it changes during the day. And sometimes, unexplainably, a forum that has been red for a few days goes all "white" (except for the actually new posts).

I have no other problems on any other forums.
It's this site that's insane.
It needs to start taking its lithium.

Thanks to all who responded with suggestions for solving my problem. I think I'll ask my guru-friend for his thoughts. After all, I have accessed this site for over two years and never had this problem until a few months ago.

I've had good luck by using the back button to return to the forum menu.

It also works well if I'm through with a particular posting within a forum and select forum list.

The red disappears in both cases.

I don't know.It happened to me once so i pushed refresh.And it all worked out.
