Editor for Self-Help/Personal Finance |

I have been working on a book for over a year now. I am almost ready to have it edited by someone. Yet, because my book looks at personal finance from a spiritual/personal growth perspective (reasons behind shame and guilt with personal finances along with how to do a budget), I have had a hard time finding someone who would bring enough knowledge of both sides of the issues to help with the editing process.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
I know that some would recommend just having friends give it a once over. Yet, I am in a position where I have contacts to some larger publishing houses and well-known literary agents. Thus, I want to put my best foot forward to ensure success. And, with my writing is average (nothing spectacular), I rather have a professional do a once over to make is shine than risk embarrassing my friend who would do the introductions.
A few people have given it a spot check and there may be some reorganization or delivery issues that need to be worked out. I took some suggestions and reorganized the book, yet it needs to be reviewed again. Thus, it is more than a copy edit (which one of the editors I contacted did but wouldn't touch anything else).
Any suggestions would help me.
Thank you.
Pete

You're bound to hear differing opinions on this. Mine is that you're probably fussing over nothing. It's obvious you can write cogently. That puts yours in the upper 10% of submissions. If your jewel needs a little extra polishing, the editor assigned to you by the publisher (gratis, of course) will help you buff.
Good luck.
